It’s all part of the inaugural Manasquan Inlet Intercoastal Tug, presented by Jersey Mike’s, that takes place on October 20th from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The event, run in conjunction with Townsquare Media radio stations 105.7 The Hawk and 94.3 The Point, will be raising money for both the Manasquan and Point Pleasant Beach township recreation departments.
This brand-new event will feature a series of Tug of War heats over the Inlet. Teams of 25-plus will be set on both sides, representing each town.
“You can’t beat 50 participants pulling a massive rope across the Manasquan Inlet on a gorgeous fall Saturday raising money for two worthy charities,” said Geoff Brown, chairman of the Manasquan Inlet Intercoastal Tug executive committee. “It’s a must-see event and with food, drink, live music, and other games, we have something for everyone!”
Both Mayors from the Manasquan and Point Pleasant Beach sides expressed confidence in their respective teams.
“The challenge is on! This is going to be a great event at a unique venue,” said Manasquan mayor Edward Donovan. “Not only does the Manasquan River and Inlet divide Point Pleasant Beach and Manasquan, it also separates Monmouth and Ocean Counties. Let the games begin! Come to Manasquan to root us on!”
“While Manasquan might be confident in their chances, we fully expect Point Pleasant Beach to come out ahead,” exclaimed Point Pleasant Beach Mayor Stephen Reid. “This brand-new and exciting event should be a great addition to the fall calendar and we’re very much looking forward to a Point Pleasant Beach victory.”
Each side of the Inlet will include their own party atmosphere with live music, food vendors, craft vendors, and more. Those interested in being a vendor are instructed to email ManasquanIntercoastalTug@gmail.com.
“Jersey Mike’s has always strived to be local partners in our communities and this event, right in our backyard, is a perfect fit,” said Rich Hope, Chief Marketing Officer of Jersey Mike’s. “We’re glad to join the Manasquan Intercostal Tug to raise money for these outstanding recreation departments.”
Joe Leone’s is the Rope Sponsor of the 1,200-plus foot rope that crosses the inlet and will be pulled by both sides during the tugs of war.
“Since our opening in Point Pleasant Beach in 1997 and Sea Girt in 2008, both sides refer to the other as ’OTB’ or over the bridge,” said Joe Leone, owner/operator of Joe Leone’s. “As the rope spnsor, Joe Leone’s is proud to bring both communities together with one rope; having established a tradition of excellence that spans the inlet for over 21 years.”
The Manasquan Intercoastal Tug committee includes: Geoff Brown, Rob Wells, Lisa TirrellTirrell, Steve Farago, Greg Giombarrese, Jim Presbrey, Nate Loveland, Pip Ertle, Gary Ramire, Frank Kineavy, Jay Price, and Mark Mead.
